Project Description
APLHIV with the support of The PACT successfully implemented a comprehensive initiative supporting the #UPROOT methodology in Pakistan, achieving all outlined objectives and fostering meaningful engagement of youth living with HIV (YPLHIV), including girls living with HIV (GLHIV) and key populations (KPs). Key outcomes are highlighted below:
1. Implementation of #UPROOT Scorecard
- The #UPROOT Scorecard was rolled out, engaging approximately 250–300 young PLHIV, GLHIV, and KPs.
- Protocols for implementation were developed, ensuring a structured and consistent approach.
2. Mobilization and Engagement of Young People and Decision-Makers
- Over 500 young individuals were mobilized, and decision-makers at various levels were engaged to address the challenges faced by YPLHIV and GLHIV.
- A platform for young and adolescent girls living with HIV was established to advocate for their health rights and amplify their voices.
- Advocacy training modules were developed and translated to strengthen the capacity of young PLHIV/KPs in engaging stakeholders and contributing effectively to the Global Fund processes and Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM).
- Training modules on organizational management were introduced to support youth-led organizations.
3. Strengthening the Capacity of Young People and Youth Organizations
- Two capacity-building workshops were successfully conducted in Sindh and Punjab, training 50 youth on Global Fund processes, CCM structures, and advocacy skills. Each workshop had 25 participants and lasted two days.
- The Executive Board of the Youth Chapter was formed, trained on organizational bylaws, and capacitated to effectively engage with stakeholders.
- Five youth Community Support Groups were established: one at the federal level and two each in Sindh and Punjab, focusing on fighting stigma, discrimination, and inequalities at grassroots levels.
- Selected youth representatives conducted advocacy and engagement meetings with the CCM, UN agencies, the Ministry of Health, Principal Recipients (PRs), and Sub-Recipients (SRs).
4. Capacity Building of Youth Organizations and Broader Outreach
- Representatives of youth-led organizations were trained on organizational development and establishing linkages with stakeholders to enhance sustainability.
- A social media campaign was launched, supported by the activation of the Youth Chapter across platforms and the development of a Youth Chapter website.
- A comprehensive report on the social media campaign documented the outreach and impact of the project.
Key Deliverables:
- #UPROOT Scorecards for Pakistan: Engaging young PLHIV to address key challenges and provide actionable insights.
