INFORMATION ABOUT TREATMENT & TREATMENT CENTERS

There is no cure but the disease can be treated by taking ARV/ART.(special HIV medicines) at least once a day regularly on daily bases for the rest of your life.

ART:

Anti Retroviral Therapy is a basic treatment of the HIV/AIDS virus. It is not complete cure but it helps to control the disease and to spend a long, healthy and normal life. It is normally a combination of 3 x drugs   which is to be taken minimum once a day regularly for the rest of life. The patient may initially have side effects but these are reduces with the passage of time. Some of the side effects which gradually settles include: –

  • Vomiting & nausea.
  • Body aches/exhaustion
  • Headache.
  • Allergies/skin rashes.
  • Bad sleep/lack of sleep/sleepiness.
  • Bad dreams.
  • Pains/discomforts.
  • Jaundice

The treatment package includes VCCT, TESTING of CD-4, VL test and use of medication as prescribed by the physician. The treatment enables the infected person to lead a normal life. It slowdowns the progress of HIV converting into AIDS and also increases the CD4 count and decreases VL count. It is important to take the dose on prescribed time regularly. All precautions must continue while taking the treatment. Balanced diet and high water intake will be helpful during the treatment.
